Conservation of Metals in Southeast Asian Collections (Collasia 2014) Phnom Penh, Cambodia National Museum of Cambodia, Phnom Penh 2-14 June 2014 Organizers ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) National Museum of Cambodia <URL:http://www.cambodiamuseum.info> With the support of the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) <URL:http://english.cha.go.kr/english/new/index.action> ) Metal collections are a significant part of the Southeast Asian heritage. Important metal objects can be found in different kind of contexts, including museums, religious sites and communities. The workshop aims at strengthening understanding of the characteristics and behaviour of metal objects, so as to promote sound conservation practices. This workshop will address the diversity of materials, manufacturing techniques and uses of metal objects in the region, as well as the ways in which metal objects change over time in different environments. Both traditional and modern conservation practices will be discussed, with special focus on preventive actions. The intensive training activity will consist of lectures and interactive sessions, both in the classroom and around Phnom Penh, with practical exercises. The working language will be English. The workshop will have up to 16 participants from Asia, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with metal heritage in museums or other contexts. The course team will consist of specialists from the ICCROM network and beyond. Scholarships covering round-trip travel, accommodation and meals in Phnom Penh during the workshop will be available.
