Assistant Furniture Conservator Period Furniture Conservation, LLC Position available: July 7, 2014 Period Furniture Conservation LLC <URL:http://www.periodfurnitureconservation.com> invites applicants for the position of Assistant Furniture Conservator. The applicant will assist in the conservation treatment of fine furniture and wooden artifacts. In addition, objects made of metal, glass, stone, porcelain, ceramic, and non traditional materials, from all periods may also be treated. We emphasize technical precision, thorough documentation and ethical, reversible treatments. Summary: This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate possesses a graduate degree in furniture conservation. Being able to reliably identify woods microscopically is a requirement of this position. Woodworking experience with strong hand skills, great in-painting skills, and a solid understanding of digital photography are also requirements for this position. The candidate should also have effective oral and written communication skills, and the willingness to work to deadlines. Overseas candidates should be eligible for a J-1 visa. Additional Requirements: Because of the nature of our work, certain other things may be required from time to time. These include: Physical strength (ability to lift up to 60 pounds on occasion) Flexibility to work onsite at client locations is a necessity. Salary and Benefit Information: This is a full-time staff position. A salary will be paid commensurate with experience. These should be in PDF format, with no more than 5 photographs imbedded in each report Photographic documentation of four furniture objects that the candidate has made.
