Senior Assistant Conservator and Assistant Conservator Durham University Library and Heritage Collections Senior Assistant Conservator Ref No: 2783 UKP24,289 - UKP29,837 Assistant Conservator Ref No: 3363 UKP20,374 - UKP23,585 Durham University Library's Special Collections, based at Palace Green Library in the heart of the Durham World Heritage Site, administers exceptionally rich and varied collections, including manuscripts, archives, books, maps, prints, and photographs. The Conservation Unit is based in a new conservation studio, and staff undertake a wide range of work, including the conservation of paper, parchment, books, and maps, condition reporting for exhibitions, mountmaking, and installing exhibitions. We are seeking both a Senior Assistant Conservator and an Assistant Conservator. Applicants for both posts will be qualified archive conservators (or, for the Assistant role, you will have completed a suitable internship) and will have a good general education. In both roles, you will work as part of a small team, under the direction of and responsible to the Head of Conservation. Applicants will be self-motivated, keen to keep up-to-date with new techniques and developments in the field of conservation and collections care, and with an ability to be flexible and innovative, to set and achieve goals, and to prioritise workload. Knowledge of paper conservation and collection care is essential.
