Harvard Library is now accepting applications for the position of
Associate Collections Conservator.  The incumbent will help manage a
conservation program that ensures the longevity and usability of the
Harvard Library's extensive general and circulating research
collections.

Under supervision of the Collections Conservator, the incumbent
works as part of the Collections Care management team to supervise
daily operations of collections conservation in multiple laboratory
locations, contributes to the development of conservation policies
and implements those policies, determines conservation priorities,
manages conservation projects, and ensures that Collections Care
supports other critical Harvard Library objectives. The Associate
Collections Conservator contributes to the development of
preservation policies, procedures, and guidelines throughout Harvard
Library.

Duties and responsibilities:

    Manages collections conservation activities in a production
    setting at multiple lab locations, ensuring that treatment
    standards and protocols are met

    Performs a wide range of conservation treatments on general and
    circulating print materials

    Supervises up to 5.0 FTE conservation technician staff members
    at multiple locations. Supervisory duties include conducting
    performance evaluations, assisting with the posting of jobs, and
    serving on search committees

    Provides training in conservation techniques and procedures to
    conservation technicians

    Assists with the management of collections conservation
    workflows and treatments from Harvard Libraries (HL)

    Works collaboratively with HL staff across multiple libraries to
    promote collections conservation activities

    Assists with the training of HL staff and students in the care
    and handling of library materials, identification of damaged
    materials, and collections emergency response protocols and
    techniques

    Performs environmental monitoring

    Participates in preservation initiatives, including project
    management and long-range program planning

    Supports library collection emergency response at Harvard by
    serving on the Library Collections Emergency Team (LCET) and as
    a Preservation Liaison
