The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applicants for the
position of Assistant or Associate Paper Conservator in the Paper
Conservation Section of the Conservation Department.  Reporting to
senior conservator titles (Conservator, Senior Conservator, Chief
Conservator), the incumbent in the position will work on a
wide-range of modern and contemporary works and participate in all
departmental activities including analysis, research, and treatment
of collection materials, preparation of works of art for exhibition,
and loan and courier responsibilities.  Full photographic and
written documentation of original condition and all stages of
treatment is a requirement.  Monitoring of hinging, matting,
storage, environmental conditions, and other preventive conservation
steps for the collection is an on-going responsibility.  Research
centering on treatment protocols, artists materials and methods is
encouraged.  The incumbent will assist with the supervision of
fellows and interns.

The Museum of Modern Art has an emphasis on the collecting and
preservation of contemporary art.  A demonstrated interest and
experience in the conservation of contemporary works is very
strongly encouraged.  Travel is a requirement of the position.

Additional requirements include an advanced degree in Conservation
and two years relevant experience for Assistant Conservator position
and five years relevant experience for Associate Conservator
position or equivalent.

education, work history, involvement with modern and/or contemporary
art and research interests and salary requirements.  The inclusion
of a writing sample, in the form of either published work or work
related documentation or research, is strongly recommended.  The
application should include the name of three references, but letters
from references are not requested.  No treatment reports are
requested and should not be included.  Candidates invited for
interviews will be asked to supply treatment reports at that time.
