Following the workshop the Horniman Museum is collaborating with the
ICON Ethno group and NatSCA to hold a one day conference

Call for Papers

"The Conservation of Hair"

Hair is used in many shapes and forms from hair embroidery, to
taxidermy, to musical instruments, to headdresses.  This conference
will provide a broad forum for different disciplines to talk about
the conservation of these intriguing museum objects.

Papers are welcome on the conservation of the use of hair from any
period, location or culture.

Abstracts for papers should be submitted by 27 March 2014.  They
must be no more than 250 words and should be sent to Louise Bacon:
lbacon<-a t->horniman< . >ac< . >uk.

Please indicate the name and affiliation of all the authors and
indicate the presenting author in bold letters.  Papers, lasting 20
minutes each, will be selected by a panel of the collaborating
partners from submitted abstracts.  The programme will be announced
in April 2014.

but will help us to plan the event more effectively.

Conference bookings will open in April 2014 and will cost
approximately UKP60.00 including refreshments and lunch.  Booking

Preceding the conference, a one day workshop on the identification
of hair will take place at the Horniman Museum, London, on 18 June
2014 and will be led by Kerri Allen, forensic scientist.
