Subject: Kristen St. John appointed Mary R. and Elizabeth K. Raymond Conservator and Head of Conservation Services at Stanford University Libraries
Kristen St. John was named The Mary R. and Elizabeth K. Raymond Conservator and Head of Conservation Services in Stanford University Libraries. Prior to the appointment, Kristen had been the Collections Conservator at UCLA for eleven years. She also worked at Rutgers University Libraries as a Conservator for Special Collections and University Archives. This appointment is not Kristen's first experience with the Stanford Libraries; she was a volunteer intern for the Conservation Department early in her career under the supervision of Walter Henry and Eleanore Stewart. She went on to work in a variety of labs including a private conservation lab, an historical society, and the Library of Congress. Kristen holds a MLIS with Advanced Certificate in Conservation from University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Classics from Trinity College, University of Dublin. Her experience includes developing a prioritization and selection system for the UCLA conservation lab; training staff within the conservation unit and the library as a whole in repair, enclosures, selection, and workflow; and leading environmental monitoring and disaster planning efforts. Most of Kristen's work will take place in the recently opened Redwood City Conservation Lab. Catherine M.
