"Understanding Egyptian Collections: Innovative display and research projects in museums" Ashmolean Museum University of Oxford September 1-2, 2014 Convenor: Mark Norman, Head of Conservation The Conservation Department at the Ashmolean Museum <URL:http://www.ashmolean.org> in partnership with Oxford ASPIRE <URL:http://www.oxfordaspiremuseums.org> and ICON <URL:http://www.icon.org.uk> is delighted to invite you to a two day international conference on the care and display of Egyptian collections to be held at the Ashmolean Museum on 1-2 September 2014. Convened by Mark Norman, Head of Conservation at the Ashmolean Museum, the conference will focus on innovative ways of conserving, displaying, understanding and interpreting Egyptian collections. Day 1 will explore the redevelopment of the Ashmolean Museum's Egyptian displays which reopened in November 2011 while day 2 will feature a series of illuminating papers examining leading edge display practice and conservation led research projects from across the world. If you wish to register an interest in attending, or would like to consider offering a paper or contributing a poster please email aspire<-a t->museums< . >ox< . >ac< . >uk by 14 February 2014. This will place you under no obligations, but will help us plan the event more effectively. We expect to make a formal call for papers in mid to late February, 2014 with a deadline of mid-March. Papers, lasting 20 minutes each, will be selected by a specialist panel from submitted abstracts and may also be considered for a post conference publication. Conference bookings will open in April 2014 and will cost approximately UKP150 for both days, excluding accommodation.
