Glass deterioration on daguerreian jewelry

Does anyone have any experience or references concerning glass
deterioration on daguerreian jewelry?  This includes what type of
tapes, if any were originally used as well as sources of
contemporary glass to replace the deteriorated ones.  Any
information will be much appreciated.
