The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation invites applicants for the
position of Conservator of Objects. Duties include examining and
analyzing objects from the decorative arts and folk art collections,
preparing proposals, carrying out conservation treatments and
writing treatment reports; instructing and supervising subordinates;
and researching and developing new conservation treatments. The
Foundation's collections consist of British and American fine,
decorative, and mechanical arts dating from the Seventeenth to early
Nineteenth centuries, and American folk art objects from the
Eighteenth to Twenty-First centuries.

Minimum qualifications include a graduate conservation degree, or
equivalent training, plus five years of professional experience;
detailed knowledge of traditional decorative, fine and folk art
materials and technologies; and experience in applying
state-of-the-art conservation methodologies. The position requires
highly developed manual skills; scientific knowledge sufficient for
undertaking in-depth examination and analysis of objects and
performing treatments; demonstrable history of proposed, completed
and documented treatments; and excellent communication skills, both
oral and written and including professional presentations.
Supervisory and administrative experience is a plus. The incumbent
will report to the Director of Conservation. Colonial Williamsburg
