Subject: Call for papers--Salt weathering on buildings and stone sculptures
Conference Salt weathering on buildings and stone sculptures Cyprus October 19-22-2011 Soluble salts are a principal agent of decay in porous building and decorative materials. Salt-decay can be identified either as efflorescence (salt growth on the surface of materials) or cryptoflorescence (salt crystallization within the pores). This conference addresses salt-related problems focusing on the study of the decay mechanisms, the key parameters controlling the crystallization of salts and the development of new conservation methods and materials. The conference is open to both researchers and practitioners and it aims to provide a forum to present and discuss recent findings. Themes Materials characterization, properties and pathology Transport and crystallization of soluble salts in porous materials Mechanisms of salt weathering Conservation methods and materials Maintenance of buildings and stone art objects Deadlines: December 17, 2010 Abstract Submission April 1, 2011 Full paper Submission Dr Andrea Hamilton, MRSC CSEC and School of Engineering Sanderson Building King's Buildings Mayfield rd University of Edinburgh EH9 3JL +44 131 651 7694 Mobile: +44 7715 027645 *** Conservation DistList Instance 24:29 Distributed: Tuesday, December 14, 2010 Message Id: cdl-24-29-003 ***Received on Monday, 13 December, 2010
