Subject: Survey on natural latex sponges
Rebecca Honold Survey for paper conservators: Natural latex sponges I am studying conservation / restoration at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (Switzerland) with specialisation in graphic, books and photographic objects. My Master-thesis deals with the impact of vulcanized natural latex sponges (known as wallmaster or smoke-off sponge) on paper surfaces. The subject of vulcanized natural latex sponges arose because of the results Sandra Schorbach had gained in her Diploma-thesis (Sandra Schorbach 2007, Cleaning sponges used for conservation (german)). She discovered a decrease of the wettability and water absorption of stucco samples treated with the latex sponge. My goal is to analyse if these alterations also occur on paper after using these sponges. Apart from the analysis of differently treatet papers I would like to document the usage of the vulcanized natural latex sponge in the paper conservation practice. Therefore I would like to ask all paper conservators to take the time (10 minutes) to fill out the survey: <URL:https://www.soscisurvey.de/wallmaster_en> Rebecca Honold University of Applied Sciences Bern: Bern University of the Arts Department: Conservation / Restoration Fellerstrasse 11 CH - 3027 Bern Switzerland *** Conservation DistList Instance 24:27 Distributed: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Message Id: cdl-24-27-015 ***Received on Saturday, 20 November, 2010
