In 1993 Canadian Conservation Institute issued the report on the Parylene project (October 1993 David Grattan) as far as I remember someone tried the Parylene on charred paper. One of the museums participating in the project was also Wurtt Landesmuseum in Stuttgart. It might be worth looking into, especially after so many years after treatments. If you have any difficulty in obtaining the report, I have a copy.
