The Centre for Sustainable Heritage (University College London) is
seeking to appoint a Full time Research Associate.

Duties and Responsibilities: The postholder will be a member of UCL
Centre for Sustainable Heritage, part of the Complex Built
Environment Systems (CBES) group

carrying out excellent research on the AHRC/EPSRC Science and
Heritage Programme project Collections Demography

working with research teams and heritage stakeholders, writing
reports and publishing and disseminating research results.

The main duties will be:

    Develop computational models of historic archival and library
    collections based on functions of environmental, material and
    value change with time.

    Explore the use of population statistics in the development of
    such models.

    Explore how the use of archival and library objects and
    collections might affect their lifetime.

    Develop the models to the stage where they can be used as a
    toolbox, either standalone or preferably on the web.

    Use multivariate data analysis to calibrate material
    characterisation tools for non-destructive analysis.

    Participate in surveys of archival and library collections using
    these tools.

    Work closely with heritage organisations to conduct case studies
    to test and apply the model.

Key Requirements: The successful candidate is required to have a PhD
in a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering, mathematics),
sociology or economics, demonstrable excellent knowledge of
statistical methods and modelling and of appropriate software tools,
demonstrable knowledge of multivariate data analysis and to be able
to manipulate and interpret large sets of qualitative and
quantitative data. A research interest in cultural heritage is
desirable as well as a publication track record. Excellent research
skills, written English, communication and presentation skills are
essential.

Salary (inclusive of London allowance) UKP31,778 per annum. Funding
for the post has been identified to 31 May 2013.
