The British Library Preservation Advisory Centre and RLUK are pleased to announce a training day: Preservation Basics British Library Centre for Conservation 96 Euston Road London NW1 2DB 26 January 2011 <URL:http://www.bl.uk/blpac/basics.html> Preservation of collections is an important part of the day to day work of librarians and archivists who have to maintain access to collections. The day will explore what is meant by preservation; highlight the risks to collections and show how to minimise those risks with simple, cost-effective actions. The day is targeted at those who are new to the preservation of library and archive collections. By the end of the day, participants will be able to: Define what is meant by preservation; Give examples of the frameworks used for preservation management; Identify the main threats to library and archive collections; Identify factors to consider when storing physical and digital items; Handle physical items correctly; Find other sources of information to support their preservation work.
