The CPC Course programme 2011 The Centre for Photographic Conservation, London, UK. <URL:http://www.cpc.moor.dial.pipex.com/> The Centre has for over 30 years responded to the needs of fellow professionals offering a programme of courses and workshops on aspects of the preservation and conservation of historic photographs. We are happy to announce that we will offer an extended programme of courses in 2011 including a new course. The Centre's courses offer conservators and other heritage professionals specialist training in this challenging field; enabling them to hone their practical skills and upgrade their knowledge of current developments and techniques. Course tutors are Ian Moor and Angela Moor who communicate their knowledge, expertise and passion in such a way as to bring alive the history and diversity of photography whilst still fully addressing the 21st Century problems of preserving and conserving this evocative medium. Their approach can not fail to stimulate participants to a deeper understanding of, and professional growth in, this demanding discipline. Whilst the courses at The Centre are intensive the 'Moors' still manage to maintain a friendly, enjoyable and informal atmosphere. We are also happy to relate that The Centre's Courses are no longer subject to V.A.T (Value Added Tax) Preservation and Conservation of Photographic Materials Ref: 100/1 11 April - 27 May 2011 A seven-week "Certificated" career and professional development course for experienced conservators and conservation students seeking to increase and develop their knowledge, skills and experience in the field of photographic conservation. The course programme skilfully blends together the history of photography and the theory of photo-chemistry with the practical hands-on skills needed for the preservation and conservation treatment of photographs, which is the main emphasis of the course. Preservation and Conservation of Photographic Materials (Theory) Ref: 100/2 29-31 March 2011 An intensive three-day course covering the identification, causes of degradation, conservation treatment options, handling, exhibition and storage of photographic materials. The Identification of Photographic Processes Ref: 100/4 18-20 April 2011 This intensive three-day course offers heritage professionals and others involved in photography a unique opportunity to undertake a comparative study of original images from the birth of photography, 1795 to the present day. Master Class - Advanced Photographic Conservation Techniques Ref: 100/5 6 June - 1 July 2011 This four-week workshop is for experienced conservators introducing advanced hands-on skills and current knowledge and developments in the preservation and conservation of paper based photographic images. It is assumed that applicants will have a high level of practical skills and also photographic process identification skills. Preference will be given to past participants of The Centre's "Certificated" course (Ref:100/1) Master Class II - Going Deeper Ref: 100/5A 4-29 July 2011 In response to requests from previous Master Class participants to go deeper, this four-week practical workshop is for experienced conservators undertaking advanced hands-on skills and current knowledge and developments in the interventive conservation treatment of paper based photographic images. It is assumed that applicants will already have a high level of practical skills and also photographic process identification skills. Preference will be given to past participants of The Centre's Master Class I Ref 100/5. Rediscovering Historic Photographic Processes Ref: 100/7 1st course: 4-8 April 2011 2nd course: 11-15 April 2011 A five-day practical workshop using materials and equipment contemporary to the historic processes participants will be able to develop an understanding of the chemistry and the manipulative skills needed to produce historic photographic processes. Processes taught include Fox Talbot's Photogenic Drawing, Calotype, and Salted Paper print, Fife's Direct Positive, Herschel's Cyanotype and Niepce de St. Victor's Albumen print.
