Repainting murals

Re: Tom Dixon's query on repainting murals:

If the proposal is to overpaint a major portion, if not all, of the
mural, then how about "repainting" it on a blank part of the wall?
There must be a way to transfer the outlines onto the new location
with some kind of photographic projection method.
