Object Conservator The Indiana State Museum Foundation The Indiana State Museum Foundation seeks a full-time professional conservator to focus on the museum's collections, with a particular concentration on historical artifacts, paper, and fine art. The object conservator will work alongside the textile conservator and natural history preparator in a state of the art conservation lab in Indianapolis. The conservator will have a demanding schedule of work, performing a variety of unique treatments that must be coordinated to provide the best care possible for the artifacts while accommodating the use of collections for research and exhibition. Skills should cover one or more of the following object types, and the incumbent would be expected to expand their abilities to deal with all of the following objects: fine art, furniture, agricultural and industrial equipment, paper, metal, glass, and ceramics. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in museum conservation or Bachelor's degree with advanced training from a recognized museum conservation program and two years of experience. One year post-internship experience, particularly in a historical museum setting. Demonstrated knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry. Ability to work safely with chemicals in a conservation laboratory for extended periods of time. Thorough knowledge of the proper procedures related to conservation, including documentation and record keeping. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively and develop strong working relationships with peers. Ability to work as part of a team and as a team leader. Working knowledge of digital photography, computer database and word processing systems.
