Conservator Assistant Conservator Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) The Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is now seeking a suitable candidate for the positions of Conservator and / or Assistant Conservator (Paintings). The main responsibilities are: Develop and review current preventive and interventive conservation guidelines and processes in close collaboration and consultation with other colleagues in HCC, NHB's Museums and other institutions/departments; Coaching and guiding the junior conservators in the areas of treatment methods, conservation science, research and developments in painting conservation; Undertake examination, assess conservation requirements, treatment and documentation of NHB's painting collections; Extensive practical work on variety of paintings; Participation in HCC's and NHB's public consultation and education activities; Plan, schedule, assign, supervise and/or execute and document conservation treatments of paintings in the NHB collections in consultation with conservation colleagues, curators and other museum departments; Responsible for and coordinate preventive conservation projects relating to collections care in storage, on loan and on display; Stay current with research and developments in painting conservation; and Participate in planning teams for exhibition and gallery development. Qualifications and Other Requirements For Conservator: He/she should be graduate from a recognised conservation training programme, with at least 8 or more years of relevant practical work experience in a museum or similar institutions; and Experience in working with a team of conservation staff as well as coaching and guiding staff will be advantageous; For Assistant Conservator, He/she should be a recent graduate from a recognised conservation training programme with 3 or less years of relevant practical work experience in a museum or similar institutions; Other general requirements for both positions: Experience in design of and display techniques for painting and is able to provide innovative alternatives; Preventive conservation knowledge and conservation documentation standards; Ability to use appropriate equipment where available including microscopes, colour meter, pH meter, illuminance meter. UV meter, etc; Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures; Self-disciplined, motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment as a team member of HCC's overall team (Which includes the Registrar's Office, Papers, Paintings, Textiles and Objects conservation sections); Good interpersonal communication skills as this job requires Conservator to work closely and interact frequently with other conservators, exhibition designers, curators, registrars and collection officers; Good organisational skills will be advantageous for project management to ensure that schedules are well planned, equipment and resources worked out and any problems anticipated (this will be done together with other Conservators in the Paintings Section); Good time and resource planning management abilities; Photographic and computer skills are required; and Able to adapt quickly and effectively to new work and living environment and appreciate cross-cultural demands. Terms of Employment: A standard contract will be drawn up specifying the salary and benefits. The contract duration is based on minimum of 2+1 years. This is however negotiable. The salary remuneration and relocation package shall depend on qualifications and experience. This shall be discussed when the offer is made.
