Subject: IIC Keck Award
Every two years the IIC's Keck Award is offered to the individual or group who, in the opinion of IIC Council, has done most to further the public appreciation of the work of the conservation profession. The Keck Award, established in 1994, was generously endowed by Sheldon and Caroline Keck to commemorate their shared lives of distinguished achievement in conservation. The cash award is presented every two years at the IIC Congress to--in Caroline Keck's words--"the individual or group who has in the opinion of the Council contributed most towards promoting public understanding and appreciation of the accomplishments of the conservation profession". At the IIC's 2010 Istanbul Congress IIC Council was delighted to make the 2010 Keck Award to the 'Painting Techniques of Impressionism and Postimpressionism' project organised by the Wallraf-Richartz Museum and Fondation Corboud in collaboration with the Cologne Institute for Conservation Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne. IIC's Council considers that the 'Painting Techniques of Impressionism and Postimpressionism' project made a strong contribution towards promoting public understanding and appreciation of the accomplishments of the conservation profession--the reason for the establishment of the award. Iris Schaefer, Head of the Restoration Department at the Wallraf, and Prof. Hans Portsteffen from the Institute of Restoration and Conservation at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, received the award in Istanbul from Josephine Kirby Atkinson, IIC's Secretary-General.
