Subject: Conference on gilding
The Society of Gilders, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Museum, is hosting Gilding in New Orleans. Running October 25 through October 30, 2010 this week-long conference dedicated to all aspects of the gilding arts. The program includes hands on classes, workshops, lectures and continuing work on local community projects with members of the Society of Gilders. 1, 2 and 3 day classes are offered in Oil Gilding, Traditional Water Gilding, Verre Eglomise, Panel Gilding, Toning, Restoration of Frames and Gilded Surfaces, Glass Gilding, Paint Making and other related subjects. The instructors are some of the most respected practitioners in their fields. In addition, there are ongoing community projects, open to all wishing to participate. Work will be done on the frame collection of the Louisiana State Museum as well as gilding restoration at St. Alphonsus Church, a magnificent example of ecclesiastical architecture circa 1850, damaged by Hurricane Katrina. All work will take place under the supervision of members of the Society of Gilders.
