At the heart of Tate is the Collection, comprising some 67,000 works of British art from the 16th century to the present day, international modern and contemporary art. Our Conservation department is responsible for providing specialist conservation services across all four Tate galleries. We bring excellence and innovation to the care of Tate's Collection, while preventing damage and deterioration of both nationally respected and internationally renowned pieces. About the role: Situated within the Time-based Media Team, you'll provide technical expertise for the conservation of works of art within Tate's Collection and care. As a member of a team of Senior Technicians, you'll support Tate's varied programme of exhibition, events, displays and loans through technical excellence. Using an innovative approach, you'll make recommendations for the transport, handling and installation of Time Based Media artworks and equipment. Working with conservators, artists and exhibitions teams you will assist in the preparation, modification and assembly of art, using the full range of specialist techniques. Leading by example, we'll also look for your contribution in developing and implementing long term procedures, as you actively look to improve the overall technical expertise of the department. About you To join this exciting and developing area at Tate, you'll need a relevant technical qualification (or equivalent work experience), and to be knowledgeable and experienced in the installation of artworks. This will include electronic media, film, video, audio, slide and computer based elements. You'll be experienced in providing expert technical advice, taking into account both practical and ethical issues, and applying an awareness of old and new media and display technologies. Also evident will be your excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, scrupulous attention to detail, and planning abilities. You must also have end-user IT skills, including image processing and collection management database software. This role will involve occasional travel and out-of-hours working.
