Assistant Time-based Media Conservator
Tate
Southwark, London

UKP22,900 per annum

Ref: 10076

At Tate, the world's leading centre for display, interpretation and
study of British, modern and contemporary art, we enjoy a national
and international profile and reputation for excellence. We welcome
seven million visitors every year, impressing them with a unique
programme of displays, exhibitions, events and learning.

At the heart of Tate is the Collection, comprising some 67,000 works
of British art from the 16th century to the present day,
international modern and contemporary art. Our Conservation
department is responsible for providing specialist conservation
services across all four Tate galleries. We bring excellence and
innovation to the care of Tate's Collection, while preventing damage
and deterioration of both nationally respected and internationally
renowned pieces.

About the role: You'll work to continue to provide first-class
conservation support and expertise across all four Tate sites and
various programmes. Day-to-day, under supervision, you'll
concentrate on documenting, preparing and treating newly acquired
works of art for display, exhibition and loan purposes, sharing your
specialist knowledge throughout Tate and beyond. It's a challenging,
intriguing role, which will see you undertaking preventative
conservation, including the support of preservation strategies and
activities, environmental monitoring and integrated pest management.
We'll also expect you to keep up-to-date with the latest
conservation techniques, and use them to recommend safe, efficient
ways to store, transport, and display the Collection.

About you: You'll need a professional conservation qualification (or
equivalent), as well as a demonstrable commitment to the on-going
conservation and care of Time-based Media. You're able to assess,
treat and document objects, applying a full understanding of the
ethics and theory behind your work, and insight into developing
conservation best practice. You'll have effective communication,
problem solving and IT skills, with flexibility around working hours
and related travel .
