Objects conservator The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) is seeking to hire an Objects Conservator to join our (currently) two member lab. Duties The Conservator is responsible for conservation of artifacts from the Museum's collections. The primary duties include treatment of artifacts, researching conservation materials and techniques, providing conservation input with regard to selecting, mounting, and displaying artifacts for exhibit. Other duties include conducting training sessions on object handling for staff, work-study students, and volunteers; assist with conservation oversight of galleries and storage; and provide advice on conservation issues for colleagues, students, and the general public. This is a three-year term funded position. Qualifications The candidate must be a graduate of a recognized Masters level conservation training program with at least two to three years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience, preferably in a similar institution. Must have excellent organizational skills and exceptional written and verbal competency. Must be able to undertake moderate to heavy lifting, climb ladders, use small tools and may be exposed to chemicals. Candidate will uphold collegial and collaborative working relationships with conservation staff and other departments.
