Die Neue Sammlung - The International Design Museum Munich
<URL:http://www.die-neue-sammlung.de> houses one of the world's
largest and most important collections of industrial design. The
large number of objects (which is around 80,000) reflects the
technologies and materials developed in the course of the 20th
century, attesting in particular to the use of plastics. When moving
to the Pinakothek der Moderne in 2002 the Conservation Department
was founded. Since that time there is a strong focus on the
conservation of degraded modern materials. Researching the
deterioration and preservation of the collection, the development of
new conservation processes and the knowledge of original technology,
the Conservation Department has become an important center for the
conservation and the maintenance of design objects. The Conservation
Department plays an active role in sharing knowledge with students
and professionals and takes part in national and international
research projects. In October 2009 the Conservation Department
launched the conference: 'FUTURE TALKS 009. The Conservation of
Modern Materials in Applied Arts and Design'.

Die Neue Sammlung is seeking a highly qualified, motivated full time
objects conservator, to join the Conservation Department. The
applicant must be a graduate of a recognized conservation training
programme. The ability to approach the conservation of a wide
variety of materials, and to quickly and accurately assess
condition, estimate treatment times, prepare treatment proposals,
deliver high quality conservation treatments and documentation,
sometimes to tight deadlines, are also essential. The applicant must
have knowledge of preventive conservation practice relating to the
care of modern collections. Work experience within the museum sector
is desired. A strong interest or experience in the technology and
conservation of 20th century objects would be an advantage.
Furthermore the applicant should have good verbal and written
communication skills in German and should be computer literate
conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel and Photoshop. A working
ability with digital photography is required.

Interested Candidates must provide the following materials:

A curriculum vitae with basic biographical information, current
and permanent addresses, telephone numbers and a description of
    current and previous working experience.

A statement of interest and intent in applying for the position.

Formal applications and supporting materials must be transmitted via
email or sent by Postal Service or an express mail service for
delivery by no later than 15 October 2010 to:
