Subject: Dry bone
We have here a larger amount of bone (human and animal). They are in the collection for decades. They are dry and as far as possible cleaned. With other objects of the archeological collection, the bones were relocated repeatedly over the last years and the condition of the bones became increasingly worse. Some have already fallen apart. In order to prevent a further degradation and decay, the bones are supposed to be preserved now. Can anyone experience in conservation of dry bone can give me some hints how the bones could be treated best: which preservative and in what concentration, which solvent and how to apply (e.g. brush or soak)?
