Assistant Objects Conservator (Contract conservator) 2-year NEH-funded position Oriental Institute Museum the University of Chicago Immediate Opening The Oriental Institute Museum at the University of Chicago seeks to hire an Assistant Objects Conservator for a two-year position. The position is funded by an NEH-Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections grant that will support a project to survey and rehouse the Museum's provenanced collection of ancient Near Eastern metal objects. The successful applicant's primary responsibilities will include conducting a conservation survey of the metals collection, rehousing the collection, supervising a team of volunteers and assisting conservation staff in the compositional analysis of the collection. The Assistant Conservator will report to the Head of Conservation. The successful candidate must have excellent communication, documentation and practical skills. Knowledge of or familiarity with archaeological metals is preferred. Required: a degree from a recognized graduate level conservation training program Experience: two years post graduate experience in a museum setting preferred The position is benefits eligible; salary is commensurate with experience.
