Foamboard

I have a number of very fragile paper items that have been dry
mounted down onto the white foamboard that framers use these days. I
have no choice but to strip away the backing before I can remove the
pages from the lining paper of the board. Can anyone give me an idea
of how to remove the foam backing part without using the scalpel or
pallet knife. It so slow!
