"Basic Paper Conservation"
Workshop
September 23-24, 2010

Instructor: Rosaleen Hill

Price: $105.00

The Vancouver Art Gallery is hosting "Basic Paper Conservation".
This two day workshop is meant as a mid-career training opportunity
for conservators specializing in streams other than paper
conservation. The first day of the workshop will focus on basic
conservation treatments for works on paper including surface
cleaning, mending, drying and flattening techniques. The second day
will be devoted to tape and adhesive removal from paper supports.
This workshop will have both demonstration and hands-on components.

Applicants will be trained conservators looking to build on their
knowledge of conservation and develop skills for basic paper
conservation. This workshop is limited to a total of 10
participants and spaces will be awarded on a first-come first- serve
basis. This workshop has been generously funded by the Canadian
Association for Conservation.

This workshop has been developed and will be presented by Rosaleen
Hill. Rosaleen has worked in the preservation field since graduating
from Queen's University 1989 with a Masters of Art Conservation
degree. Rosaleen has a private preservation consulting business
based in Vancouver. Current projects include: Conservation
Consultant for the Archives Association of BC where she manages the
province-wide BC Archives Preservation Service; she develops
distance and "live" preservation workshops--most recently focusing
on digital and "at risk" analog records. She has completed many
treatments, preservation assessments and preservation projects for
numerous archives, special collections and museums across Canada.
Rosaleen has taught paper conservation at the University of Canberra
in Australia and joined the UBC School of Library and Archival
Studies program as an adjunct professor in the fall of 2008. She is
currently the Chair of the Canadian Council of Archives national
preservation committee and acts as a liaison to the Board of
Directors.
