The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) is seeking an

independently and as part of a team of conservators. The position
offers an opportunity to spend a concentrated amount of time at the
bench in a spacious laboratory with highly skilled colleagues.

Conservation work includes treatment of book pages as well as
bindings. Volumes conserved at NEDCC are varied and may include
printed books and pamphlets, bound manuscripts and prints, and
scrapbooks and albums.

Responsibilities include: performing all conservation procedures
including examination, treatment and documentation; and assisting
with surveys, educational programs and consulting with clients.
Basic computer and digital photography skills, analytical ability
and writing skills are required. An awareness of preservation
principles and their relation to treatment options are also
important.

NEDCC is a regional conservation center specializing in the
preservation and conservation of paper-based objects. NEDCC's
mission is to improve the conservation efforts of libraries,
archives, historical organizations, museums, and other repositories;
to provide the highest quality services to institutions without
in-house conservation facilities or those that seek specialized
expertise; and to provide leadership in the preservation and
conservation fields. NEDCC's book conservators perform a wide
variety of conservation treatments to high standards while working
as efficiently as possible.

The Center is located in a renovated early twentieth century mill
complex in Andover, MA, 25 miles north of Boston. The book and
paper conservation staff currently numbers twelve.

Graduation from a conservation program with a concentration in book
conservation or completion of a recognized book binding program
along with several years experience or equivalent experience are a
pre-requisite.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Professional
development is encouraged and supported.
