Temporary, full-time position

The Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the leading art museums in
North America. Our commitment to innovation and creativity has
transformed that art experience at the AGO. Internationally
celebrated architect Frank Gehry has created breathtaking spaces for
art, while the generosity of the late Ken Thomson has transformed
our collections.  The AGO holds an internationally renowned
collection of more than 79,000 works, which spans from 100 A.D. to
the present.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is looking for a Temporary Full-Time
Conservator, Decorative Arts to work in a very busy museum
environment. The successful incumbent will work 25 up to 35 hours
per week; Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm up to September 2, 2011.

Reporting to the Manager, Collections and Conservation, this
position is responsible for prolonging the physical and aesthetic
life of works of art sculpture and decorative arts through
documentation, preventive care, conservation treatment, research and
education.  This position is also responsible for promoting and
advocating the preservation of works in the collection or in the
temporary custody of the Gallery.  The incumbent will also be
responsible for providing advice and expertise concerning the
aesthetic, conceptual and physical characteristics of works of art.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Masters degree in
Conservation, plus five (5) years related experience in an art
museum, or equivalent combination of education and years of directly
related experience.  In addition, the candidates will have a
demonstrated ability to work independently, possess an excellent
knowledge of conservation principles, practices, materials, and
techniques, as well as an excellent knowledge of health and safety
legislation, regulations and practices, and the "Code of Ethics and
Guidance for Practice" of the Canadian Association for Conservation
of Cultural Property (CAC) and of the Canadian Association of
Professional Conservators (CAPC).
