PhD studentship in Technical Art History
University College London (UCL)

The UCL History of Art department is pleased to offer a
fully-funded, three-year PhD studentship in the field of Technical
Art History. The studentship will focus on the examination and
analysis of paintings primarily from the nineteenth century, using
both a portable XRF and other analytical techniques with a view to
interpreting the findings in their art historical context.

The applicant is expected to have a strong intellectual background
in art history and to possess the technical proficiency to be able
to employ confidently a range of analytical techniques, as well as
IT competence. Such correlated skills are expected to produce a
valuable body of new, scholarly research in this burgeoning field.

Applicants are required to have an upper second class honours degree
in History of Art or a subject related to Technical Art History, and
either an MA or professional equivalent in this field. The
studentship is to commence on 27 September 2010. Closing date for
applications is 6^th August, 2010. Interviews will take place in
August/early September.
