Metropolitan Museum Studies in Art, Science, and Technology The Metropolitan Museum of Art has just published the first issue of its new technical periodical devoted to the exploration of the reciprocal relationship between physical nature and aesthetics in the visual arts. Metropolitan Museum Studies in Art, Science, and Technology is a full color, peer- reviewed publication that will appear biennially, featuring new research on topics such as artists' materials and their aging properties, techniques and technologies used in the manufacture of works of art, and conservation theory and history. Volume I (2010)-with contributions from Andrea Bayer, Lawrence Becker, Federico Caro, Silvia Centeno, Ann Heywood, Lucretia Kargere, Dorothy Mahon, Adriana Rizzo, Xavier Salomon, Deborah Schorsch, Donna Strahan, and Mark Wypyski-includes a history of early objects conservation practices in The Metropolitan Museum of Art; an exploration of the use of lapis lazuli and azurite as pigments in ancient Egypt; two related investigations into the casting methods and materials of early Chinese bronze Buddha figures; a compositional study of medieval Islamic enameled glass; an analysis of the polychrome decoration on four French Romanesque sculptures; and an evaluation of several paintings by Paolo Veronese, addressing a longstanding debate over whether they originated as a group. The Editorial Board of Metropolitan Museum Studies in Art, Science, and Technology especially welcomes collaborative research from scholars working in the fields of conservation, the sciences, art history, and archaeology.
