Clothworkers' Research Fellowship The National Archives Kew, West London Fixed term appointment for 12 months UKP30,000 stipend Can you help us to enhance our understanding of British textile design and manufacture--from the Industrial Revolution up to the early 1990s? About the role: We are seeking to recruit an experienced professional as our first Research Fellow, generously funded by the Clothworkers' Foundation. This interdisciplinary Fellowship aims to address questions of how to realise the enormous research potential of The Board of Trade Representations and Registers of Design collection. This 'museum in miniature' is a unique resource of textile samples, gloves, socks, photographs and drawings bound in 10,358 volumes. This is a highly valuable primary source for exploring textile design, technology and manufacture in Britain and Europe that needs to be preserved and made accessible more widely. The National Archives Fellowship provides a unique research experience. Benefitting from a range of resources available at The National Archives and the department of Collection Care, you will be free to develop this project and work flexibly with an interdisciplinary team of allied professionals to explore how this valuable resource can be made available to a wide community of users. About you An experienced professional you will have research experience preferably in textile conservation, textile history or book conservation. The Fellow is expected to foster and build collaborative relationships between conservation professionals, academics, and the public. You will also be experienced in conducting cross-disciplinary research, showing time and again that you are an articulate and collaborative professional capable of effectively managing important projects. The National Archives is the official archive for England, Wales and the UK government, preserving over 1,000 years of history from Domesday Book to the present, with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and archived websites. Increasingly, these records are being put online, making them universally accessible. The National Archives is also at the heart of information policy--setting standards and supporting innovation in information and records management across Government.
