Head of Preservation Department Nationalmuseum Stockholm Permanent position, full time National <URL:http://www.nationalmuseum.se> is Sweden's leading art and design museum, with around 150 employees and large collections on national and international display. The collections consists of paintings, sculpture, prints and drawings, and decorative art and design from ancient times to modern day. The current Conservation Department has 15 employees, within several areas such as paintings, frames, European portrait miniatures, art on paper, sculpture, decorative art and furniture. At the beginning of 2011 the department will be reorganized and extended and the new department will be titled the Preservation Department. Description: As the Head of the Preservation Department you will report directly to the Director General and be part of the Management team. You will be responsible both for the department's daily operations and long-term planning, for personal management and departmental finances. Your duties will include responsibility for the museums' general conservation and preservation activities and the development of strategies within the department to initiate and be part of research projects. As the planned renovation will come along, you will play a key role in the logistics of planning and implementing the move to new storage facilities and studios. Requirements: The Head of the Preservation Department is expected to be highly result-oriented, to set up and achieve stated goals and to maintain a good working climate in the department. This requires excellent leadership, administrative and communication skills. We are looking for a person with solid experience of working with conservation/preservation in the museum sector and who has previous experience of management. You must have a degree in preservation/conservation or a related science degree in combination with experience in the field of conservation. A well documented research background in the field is considered an additional qualification. It is essential that you have an international network of contacts in museum conservation.
