Subject: Call for volunteers--British Library
Voluntary Work Opportunities Preservation We are offering two, six month volunteer placements in our Preservation department; the first starting in September 2010, followed by the second in October 2010. These opportunities have been created to further the aims of the British Library via the dissemination of key skills and knowledge in the field of Preservation. The successful individuals will have an opportunity to learn while volunteering in a working national library with a view to applying the skills and knowledge obtained in their own working practice on their return to their home institution. By working alongside Library employees in Preservation, volunteers will have the chance to learn and understand the work of one of the core areas of the British Library, including identifying and managing risks to collections; considering best practice for handling material, disaster preparedness, integrated pest management, and creating and storing surrogate copies. Each volunteer will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses with a stipend of UKP8,500 maximum. Reasonable expenses will include reimbursement for flights, accommodation, obtaining a visa, and subsistence whilst in London.
