Subject: Ozone
I've found some data on ozone sensitivity for known dyestuffs in the Colour Index (9 volumes, 1971 3rd ed) to explain why a weaver's trichromatic dyeing faded out of hue in 3 months in Los Angeles. One of the dyes used was quite sensitive to ozone. The Color Index section on in organic Pigments is less forthcoming. You will find some information on peroxide fading (ozone decomposes to hydrogen peroxide) at the MCI website <URL:http://www.smithsonian.org/mci/english/research/consulting> under Disasters in a study summarized by David Erhardt "The Effects of Peroxide Decontamination Reagents on the Chemical and Physical Properties of Cultural Materials." He focuses on Oxone a potassium peroxymonosulfate formulation from DuPont. The study was funded by NCPTT after 9/11. Best wishes, Mary W.
