The Indianapolis Museum of Art <URL:http://www.imamuseum.org> is
seeking an experienced Collection Manager to care for the objects in
the Miller House (a National Historic Landmark, in Columbus,
Indiana) collection including relocations, inventory, applying
numbers and/or tags, assessing and creating appropriate storage
mounts, preparing condition reports, photographing objects and light
cleaning as approved by Conservation.

Essential Job Functions include the following:

    Conduct collection inventory and basic cataloguing of collection
    including: entering location data into EMu collections
    management system, taking measurements, photos and writing
    general descriptions for each object

    Creating condition reports for objects recorded directly into
    EMu and liaise with the appropriate conservator regarding
    storage, handling, and treatment options

    Applying either TR numbering tag or permanent accession numbers
    to objects after catalogued by curator

    Design and construct appropriate storage mounts in consultation
    with collections staff

    Relocating works of art within the house (including seasonal
    rotations or for maintenance purposes) following art handling
    guidelines

    Assist museum collections support staff with unpacking,
    recording, packing gifts, loans, and purchases

    Produce appropriate receipts and/or loan forms for works
    entering/exiting the collection

    Care for the objects in the Miller House collection, including;
    monitor temperature, humidity, and light levels in the house,
    alerting the conservators and the buildings department of
    discrepancies, and maintaining a log of gathered information.
    Perform environmental studies as requested and report results to
    conservators and conservation scientist

    Supervise any volunteers who calibrate and log data

    Coordinate weekly dusting of the works of art in the home and
    maintain the dusting schedule. Perform routine minor
    conservation work in consultation with conservators

    Digital photographic documentation and conservation support
    activities, enabling treatments to proceed in an orderly manner

    Assist with pest control, as needed

    Computer skills including word processing and database
    development and management

    Participate in development of collections management policy for
    Miller House

    Assist with supervision of Miller House intern position each
    semester

    Coordinate and work with events in and around the house to
    ensure preservation of the house and its contents

    Other duties may be assigned

Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art, Art History, or related field
required. Masters degree in Museum Studies, Fine Arts, or Art
History preferred. Experience in collections management, object
handling and cataloguing also required.
