ICON Ethnography Group Ethno Crawl Sunday 27 June 2010 Dennis Severs House, East London 11:30-11:45 am The Ethno Crawl is back, and as a special treat for our ethnography group members, we are making this a free event. (See below for more details.) The Ethno Crawl has returned to London this summer in a very unique setting--Brick Lane (London). Please join our group as we visit two ethnographic hideaways in the heart of East London. Our first stop will bring us to Dennis Severs House, a time capsule emulating life in the early 18th century which has been described as 'stepping into a painting: one with a time and life of its own'. From there we will venture around the corner to Sheba Brick Lane Indian cuisine to feast on Tandoori and Balti cuisine. We will finish the crawl with a rare opportunity to visit 19 Princelet Street, a Grade II listed building too fragile for regular public visits. Here we will see a place that has lived many lives including a Huguenot silk weaver's home and a hidden Victorian synagogue. Our visit will provide a much needed donation to aid in the conservation and restoration of this building so that it can be sustained for future generations. Finally, if you're not too exhausted from the day's busy schedule you can stay in Brick Lane to marvel at the free open markets selling everything from vintage clothing and jewellery to all sorts of bric-a-brac. Note: Lunch is not included. This event is only open to Ethnography Group members and space is limited to 25 people. Logistics: Meet outside Dennis Severs House between 11.30 am and 11.45 pm on 27 June 2010 (Sunday). (If raining, meet inside front door).
