Subject: Conference on advocacy
Preservation Advisory Centre free events: Advocacy, Evidence, Support The British Library Preservation Advisory Centre is holding a number of events at locations in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland on the theme of Advocacy, Evidence and Support for the preservation of library and archive collections. With increased pressure on resources it can be difficult to make the case for long-term activities such as preservation. Most institutions want what preservation achieves: ensured continuity of access to collections. The events explore how to make the case for preservation in terms of the outcomes it achieves and value to the organisation. They promote use of the Preservation Assessment Survey as a method of collecting evidence of preservation strengths and weaknesses, and outline the Preservation Advisory Centre's work to refresh Knowing the Need, the overall picture of preservation practice and usability of library and archive collections in the UK. The events are aimed at librarians, archivists and collection care professionals. Each event showcases local examples of collaborative work, networks or support available for preservation and conservation activities. They seek to strengthen the community of practice that is necessary for sharing of expertise and support. 7 June, 2010 National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh 15 June, 2010 The John Rylands Library, University of Manchester 6 July, 2010 National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth 13 July, 2010 National Library of Ireland, Dublin 21 July, 2010 The British Library, London Each event is free but places are limited.
