The British Museum is currently recruiting for a Preventive
Conservator / Preventive Conservation Scientist to work within the
Department of Conservation and Scientific Research. The post holder
will help to provide a comprehensive and unified preventive
conservation service for the Museum's collections, in collaboration
with other stakeholders and to assist with the formulation and
implementation of relevant policies and procedures. This post will
involve responsibility for monitoring, materials testing and
analytical duties and provision of technical assistance and advice
to promote best practices throughout the Museum for the long-term
preservation of its collections. In addition, the post holder with
help to deliver preventive conservation, collection care and
housekeeping training, in collaboration with other stakeholders, as
part of the Museum's international strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong science or conservation
background and interest or experience working in the areas of
preventive conservation or preventive conservation science. You will
have an interest in the deterioration and conservation of historical
and archaeological artefacts, with a particular emphasis on the
impact of environmental factors on the preservation of such objects.
You will ideally have experience in assessing and monitoring all
aspects of environmental conditions (including light, relative
humidity, temperature, vibration, dust and pollutant gas/air
monitoring, etc), in undertaking materials testing, in integrated
pest management and in delivering a preventive conservation
strategy.
