UKP24,906 - UKP35,633 per annum (Band 5/4) depending on skills

The V&A is seeking a full time furniture conservator who will
undertake practical work on a wide range of objects from the
Furniture and Asian Collections, the Theatre and Performance
Collections and the V&A Museum of Childhood, in addition to
contributing to the V&A's Exhibition and Future Plan programme for
development of galleries. Work will include all furniture, clocks,
decorative surfaces, modern materials, organic materials e.g. ivory,
leather and tortoiseshell, as well as architectural models, period
rooms and toys.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable practical experience
in addition to having completed a recognised conservation training
programme or have undertaken an equivalent practical training.
Cabinet-making or related woodworking experience and competence with
woodworking machinery are required. The ability to be able to
approach the conservation of a wide variety of materials used in the
manufacture of furniture and related objects with confidence, and to
quickly and accurately assess condition, estimate treatment times,
prepare treatment proposals, deliver high quality conservation
treatments and documentation, often to tight deadlines are also
essential.  Experience with wood identification and/or microscopy is
desirable.

You will be highly self-motivated and able to organise your own
workload with the minimum of supervision and be able to work
independently or as part of a team. You will have good verbal and
written communication skills. Familiarity with SLR digital
photography, as well as experience with IT programmes such as Word,
Excel and Photoshop are required.
