Senior Lecturer in Conservation University of Gothenburg University of Gothenburg, Faculty of Science, Department of Conservation, announces an available position as Senior Lecturer in Conservation, particularly conservation of cultural heritage objects The Department of Conservation at the University of Gothenburg offers professional degrees and research programs that address cultural heritage issues including: urban environments, landscapes, buildings, gardens, and objects. At the Mariestad campus, the department offers university degree programs in traditional building craftsmanship, garden handicraft, and landscape conservation. At the Gothenburg campus, programs are offered in conservation of cultural heritage objects and in building preservation. A professional conservator requires a broad expertise that incorporates knowledge from diverse fields in the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Moreover, the professional practice of preserving and fostering our cultural heritage requires special practical expertise in documentation, interpretation, and analysis. The Department is in a development phase where the interaction between the department's various specializations, and between education and research, as well as outreach involvement with the surrounding community, both nationally and internationally, are important components. Responsibilities: Undergraduate teaching at entry and advanced levels with a special responsibility for the program in conservation of cultural heritage objects. Planning and management tasks within the conservation program. Teaching within the department's other program specializations and course offerings, and developing collaboration with other related areas in the department. Research and development within the subject area of conservation. Collaboration with sectors outside the university especially cultural preservation institutions, both nationally and internationally. Tutoring and teaching at the postgraduate level. Qualification requirements: The qualification requirements as stated in the Higher Education Ordinance are applied for the position. An additional requirement is ability to teach in Swedish and English. The successful applicant is expected to teach in Swedish after 2 years. Assessment: Teaching skills and professional experience in the conservation of cultural heritage objects will be weighted equally in the evaluation of the applicant's skills. In the assessment of teaching skills, particular emphasis will be placed on experience in planning, organizing and managing courses and proven experience of teaching and supervision within the subject area of the position. The Swedish conservation training program works closely with the cultural heritage sector and other public institutions; consequently, a good knowledge of the Swedish heritage sector and labour market for conservators is important. In the assessment of professional skills in conservation, particular attention will be given to qualified and extensive knowledge of and experience with conservation and other cultural heritage preservation issues. An important merit besides relevant specialization of the successful candidates is knowledge and experience in the field of preventive conservation. Scientific skills, after teaching skills and professional experience, are the second most important basis for assessment. In their assessment, special emphasis will be placed on proven scientific competence within the subject area of the position. Experience beyond professional boundaries and/or interdisciplinary collaborations such as personnel management or outreach to stakeholders in the wider community are subsequently of importance to the assessment of a candidate's competence.
