This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your expertise as part of
a supportive research team.

About the role: We are looking for a knowledgeable and talented
individual to join our Collection Care team, and help deliver the
ambitious conservation science research programme which is focused
on three key areas: collection management; the predicted life of
materials; and the technical examination of The National Archives
collection. You will be carrying out a range of activities that
support this research programme, including FTIR-ATR, thermal and
mechanical testing and monitoring material properties. This is an
exciting opportunity to translate research outcomes into effective
new preservation policies and practices.

About you: Along with significant experience in conservation
science, you will have a successful track record of managing your
own projects and dealing with a wide range of customers. In addition
to good knowledge of IR spectroscopy, thermal and mechanical testing
and colourimetry, you will also need an interest in developing
scientific expertise in photographic, film and related materials. We
will also expect you to bring experience of publishing to a high
academic standard.

The National Archives is the official archive for England, Wales and
the UK government, preserving over 1,000 years of history from
Domesday Book to the present, with records ranging from parchment
and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and
archived websites. Increasingly, these records are being put online,
making them universally accessible. The National Archives is also at
the heart of information policy--setting standards and supporting
innovation in information and records management across the UK.
