Preservation Microclimate Workshop Sponsored by the North Carolina Preservation Consortium Greenville, North Carolina Saturday, April 24, 2010 The environment surrounding an object is critical to its preservation A microclimate assists in controlling the humidity, temperature, and pollution levels for objects on display or in storage. Participants of this workshop will learn how the environment affects various material types, methods for measuring the environment (including new technologies), and strategies for improving environmental conditions. A theoretical background in creating microclimates will be examined in depth followed by a hands-on practical session. Participants will be encouraged to discuss their institutional challenges and share their experience with environmental issues. This workshop is beneficial for all personnel in museums, libraries, archives, and historic sites. Faculty and students in public history, library science, museum studies, conservation and other collection disciplines are also welcome.
