Senior Photograph Conservator National Gallery of Art The National Gallery of Art is pleased to announce the establishment of a Senior Photograph Conservator position, which has been made possible through the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The Gallery is seeking applications from qualified candidates to support the Head of Photograph Conservation with the development of the newly established Photograph Conservation Department, including assisting with the planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of departmental activities pertaining to the care of the Gallery's vast photograph collections; supervising and mentoring junior-level conservators, fellows, interns, and technicians; and supporting its expanding exhibition and educational programs. The conservator will work in close collaboration with Gallery conservators, scientists, curators, and other Gallery staff to identify research priorities for the Gallery's photograph collections, and will participate in research and educational programs with Gallery staff and partner institutions to advance scientific and historical scholarship related to the study and conservation of photographic materials. Eligibility: Candidates must be U.S. citizens and graduates of recognized conservation training programs or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience, with a minimum of six years practicing as a photograph conservator, at least two of which having been in an art museum setting. Candidates must demonstrate excellent conservation treatment, communication, and organizational skills and ongoing contributions to the photograph conservation field. Experience in scientific research and testing related to photographic materials is desirable. An expanded description of the duties may be obtained by emailing Michael Skalka at the address below.
