Subject: Position at King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry museum
Conservator Doncaster Council Doncaster Council are looking for a museum conservator to clean and conserve objects for the re-display of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry museum and to oversee a programme of volunteers who will assist you in this work. The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry museum is a small museum that has received a generous UKP204,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the re-display of the entire gallery. We are looking for somebody to work on all the objects for re-display, ranging from a uniform worn at the Battle of Waterloo to gas masks worn in the trenches and a 19th century machine gun. The displays will be brought up to date with objects from the Rifles (the KOYLI successor body). We will expect you to have a degree (or equivalent) in historic object conservation and at least six months paid or volunteer experience of working in a museum environment, or similar. It would be an advantage to have worked with a wide variety of objects, although this post would be ideal for anyone seeking such experience. You will need to be organised and good at getting on with people, as well as in explaining basic conservation cleaning techniques to volunteers. You will be managed by the Museum's Assistant Manager (Conservation and Collections Care), who will also be available to assist with a discussion of conservation techniques and requirements. This is a five month full-time post. For an informal discussion please phone either Carolyn Dalton, Manager (Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery) or Graham Key, Assistant Manager (Conservation and Collections Care) on +44 1302 734285.
