The Walters Art Museum <URL:http://www.thewalters.org> is pleased to
announce the recent arrival of Dr. Glenn Alan Gates as Conservation
Scientist in its Division of Conservation and Technical Research.
Glenn has been warmly welcomed by the staff and is already
collaborating on projects as diverse as the technical study of a
gilded silver Visigothic fibula to the analysis of the treasure
binding elements of the historically important Mondsee Gospels.
Glenn's position is generously supported with funds from the Andrew
W. Mellon Foundation.

Previously, Glenn was the Head Research Scientist at the Detroit
Institute of Arts where he supervised the integration of organic
materials studies with the existing facilities for inorganic
artist's materials studies. Glenn also completed the Andrew W.
Mellon Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Straus Center for
Conservation under the direction of Dr. Narayan Khandekar, and
worked in the scientific laboratories at the National Gallery of Art
and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Glenn's appointment
continues a long tradition at the Walters Art Museum that creates
new knowledge about art, its history, technology, and preservation
through collaborative study of its comprehensive collections.
