Subject: Glycerin in isinglass
I have been researching the addition of glycerine to Isinglass (sturgeon bladder glue). It is referenced in a number of publications that isinglass becomes brittle unless a humectant such as glycerine or honey is added to the adhesive. It seems from reading articles that conservators have been adding glycerin to isinglass, but note in their publications that it's aging properties are unknown. Does anyone know of any research or publications that are exploring this?
