Printed on Paper: The Techniques, History and Conservation of Printed Media edited by Jane Colbourne, Northumbria University and Reba Fishman Snyder, Pierpont Morgan Library This is the revised and edited text of papers presented at the 2007 Printed on Paper conference at The Sage Gateshead. The conference was jointly organised by Northumbria University and the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Covering the period from the later Middle Ages to the present, the twenty five essays in this book engage with fundamental issues of the care, conservation, treatment, history and display of printed matter, ranging from fifteenth-century incunables to early twentieth-century film posters and contemporary digitally produced Fine Art prints. They demonstrate the multi-disciplinary character of research in the field of conservation and technical art history, and its central significance for understanding and preserving cultural heritage. The authors are all specialists in their fields and are drawn from museums, universities, print studios, libraries and conservation institutes in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Dominican Republic.
